For admissions to the Gold Coast Private Hospital Day Surgery Unit please present at Theatre Admission Centre located on level 1, opposite the elevators.

    Before your procedure

On arrival to the unit you will be asked to wait in one of our comfortable recliner chairs. There is limited space available in the unit, but you are welcome to be accompanied by a member of your family or a friend..

Your personal items will be identified and stored safely. It is important that you do not bring any valuables with you on admission. A member of the nursing staff will finalise your admission and you will be asked to change into your theatre garments and a dressing gown.

All of your relevant health history will be obtained during this process. We will also require the current details of your next of kin to ensure that someone is available to transport you home when you are discharged. Patients are admitted according to the order of the theatre list, not necessarily in the order that they arrived to the unit.

    After your procedure

After your procedure you will be transferred to the recovery unit where you will be given time to recover post-surgery and offered light refreshments. If you have any special dietary needs please advise your admitting nurse.

Our nursing staff will monitor your post-operative recovery. Your doctor may request that you stay in the unit for a minimum of two hours post-procedure if you have had a general anaesthetic. Once your doctor has reviewed you, you are welcome to leave the unit.

If your procedure requires overnight hospitalisation, your personal items will be transported to your room.

    Submit your admission registration online.

Your doctor will inform you of your discharge date. The discharge time from Gold Coast Private Hospital is 9.00am.

Kindly ensure that you have made arrangements for transport following discharge. Should you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact our staff for assistance.

    Upon discharge

Please ensure that you collect all of your possessions when you leave the ward. Please also check with the nursing staff if you need to take any medications or x-rays with you when you leave. When you are ready to leave the ward please advise the nurse or ward receptionist who will complete your discharge documentation and arrange for a staff member or volunteer to escort you to the hospital entrance

Your medications may change while you are in hospital. It is imperative that you are aware of exactly what your medication regime will be upon discharge. Our pharmacist will provide you with all the information that you will require, such as correct dose and times of medications. At the doctor's or pharmacist's discretion you may be provided with medication discharge profiles. These are provided when there has been numerous changes made to your medication regime or if you are unsure of your regime. This service is available to all DVA patients.

    Discharge planners

To facilitate the smooth transition between the Gold Coast Private Hospital and your home, discharge planners are available to assist you with the process. Discussions will focus on changes to your independence following your hospital stay. This may include the organisation of aids or services to assist with your recovery at home such as equipment or ongoing care.

Smoking is banned at all Queensland public and private hospitals and health facilities, and for five metres beyond their boundaries.

The legislation, which was introduced on January 1, 2015, is the Health Legislation Amendment Bill 2014 to Part 8 of the Amendment of Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998.

These no smoking laws apply at all times, and to all staff and patient residential areas on healthcare facility land, and include the use of all smoking products, including regular cigarettes and devices commonly known as electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). The laws cover:

    • Land on which any Queensland Health Hospital and Health Service provides health services, including hospitals, community health centres, health clinics, rehabilitation centres and residential aged care facilities
    • Land on which a private health facility (private hospitals and day hospitals) provides services.

The laws are enforced by Queensland Health environmental health officers and public facility authorised officers.

Patients, staff or visitors smoking in smoke-free areas may be given a warning to stop smoking, or be asked to move beyond the five metre smoke-free buffer if they wish to continue smoking.

On-the-spot fines apply for breaches of the tobacco laws.
