Dr Rafid Alzubaidy

Breast Melanoma Surgeon
Dr Rafid Alzubaidy, specialises in breast, melanoma and laparoscopic general surgery.
He graduated from the University of Al-Mustanseria, Iraq in 1996 before moving to Australia in 2000. He started surgical training in Adelaide in 2006 and later moved to Perth to undertake studies in advanced training in general surgery. In 2012, Dr Alzubaidy commenced his breast fellowship training in Perth at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital before moving to Queensland in 2013 to complete his breast surgery training. He is the current director of general surgery at Robina Hospital.
Dr Rafid Alzubaidy is recognised as a Surgeon of Excellence in Breast Treatment.

Dr Dave Messer is an oncoplastic breast surgeon with a special interest in surgical management of benign and malignant breast conditions and oncoplastic breast reconstruction techniques. A Medical Graduate of the University of Queensland, Dr Messer was awarded Fellowship to Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2014. He undertook a 2 year post-graduate fellowship in breast surgery at the Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, New Zealand, and the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute, Sydney, Australia.
Dr Dave Messer is recognised as a Surgeon of Excellence in Breast Treatment.

Dr Heidi Peverill

Oncoplastic Breast, Melanoma and General Surgeon
Dr Heidi Peverill grew up in the Western Suburbs of Brisbane and is a locally trained Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She has completed subspecialty training in Oncoplastic Breast Cancer and Melanoma Surgery. Having gained her FRACS in 2012, Dr Peverill has worked extensively in both the public and private sectors and is very experienced in all aspects of surgical care.
Dr Peverill works to ensure the best oncologic outcome as well as ensuring the optimal aesthetic result for each and every patient, with both Breast Cancer or Melanoma. She is passionate about ensuring patients feel informed and confident when making decisions about their treatment. Dr Peverill also treats benign breast disease and performs other general surgery including gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery and emergency general surgery.

Dr Su-Lin Leong

Dr Su-lin Leong is a Breast and Endocrine Surgeon with a considerable experience in the surgical management of breast cancer, benign breast disease, thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, goitres and hyperparathyroidism.
After receiving her FRACS in General Surgery in 2008, Dr Leong completed a postgraduate Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship year at the NSW Breast Cancer Institute, Westmead Hospital. She is a member of Breast Surgeons of Australia & New Zealand, Australasian Society for Breast Disease and affiliated with Australian & New Zealand Endocrine
Surgeons (AES). Her special interests include oncoplastic breast cancer surgery, breast implant reconstruction, thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, selective neck dissection and skin cancer surgery.

Dr Geoff Miller

Dr Miller has been a general surgeon with an interest in Breast Surgery on the Gold Coast for thirty years. After spending about 15 years at the Gold Coast Hospital where his practice was involved in General Surgery he became the Director of Breast Surgery in the latter part of his time at the Hospital. He then went into private practice and has offered services in breast and general surgery. He has been committed to Breast Screening and has spent over thirty years working in the service, and continues to offer his services. His Breast Practice involves oncoplastic breast surgery working in a multidisciplinary team with Plastic Reconstructive Surgeons. He is committed to the Gold Coast Private Hospital and performs a large number of his surgical services at the facility.

Dr Andrea Tazbirkova is a Gold Coast based Medical Oncologist with an interest in a broad range of solid malignancies including urogenital, colorectal and lung with a special interest in breast and gynaecological cancers.
Dr Tazbirkova has always been passionate about research and new advances in the field of medical oncology. She is a co-investigator on a broad range of clinical trials. She was actively involved in early phase cell-based immunotherapy clinical trials at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research and the University of Queensland, presenting her work at multiple national and international meetings and published in peer review journals.

Dr Marco Matos
Medical Oncologist
Dr Matos graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru. Initially dedicated to the delivery of Public Health to poor rural communities around the shanty towns of Lima before migrating to Australia in 1996. Dr Matos is committed to teaching and training of advanced oncology trainees and undergraduate students from the Griffiths and Bond Universities. He is an active member of the numerous multidisciplinary oncology meetings in the Public and Private sectors. He is also the principal investigator of numerous clinical trials including the LIGHT trial (Phase III, randomised trial of linifanib versus sorafenib for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma), RAINBOW trial ( A phase III trial for patients with advanced gastric cancer who progressed after first-line chemotherapy comparing paclitaxel vs paclitaxel and Ramucirumab, a vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor).

A/Prof Jim Jackson is an experienced radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Gold Coast, Icon Cancer Centre North Lakes and Icon Cancer Centre Greenslopes. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) at the University of Queensland in 2004. Prior to this A/Prof Jackson had completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and is currently a PhD candidate at Monash University, where he is investigating methods to reduce side effects of cancer treatment.

Dr Dominic Lunn

Radiation Oncologist
Dr Dominic Lunn is an experienced radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Gold Coast and Icon Cancer Centre Redland. attended the University of Queensland as an undergraduate and received a first-class honours degree in molecular biology before spending several years working in medical research both in Australia and overseas. In 2000, he enrolled in the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Queensland, and graduated with honours. He began training in radiation oncology in 2008 was awarded fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) in early 2012.
He subsequently completed a fellowship in palliative care at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane and worked as a palliative care specialist and locum radiation oncologist until late 2013 when he was involved in setting up the radiation oncology service at Icon Cancer Centre Gold Coast University Hospital and Redland.

Debra Miller
Physiotherapist trained in lymphedema care
Debbie has worked as a physiotherapist across many areas from rehabilitation to cardio-respiratory and oncology. She developed a passion working in women’s health, being able to treat and support women through the many challenges that can occur through their life stages. In 2015 Debbie completed her Level 1 in Lymphoedema Management at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, she followed this with study at Victorian Cancer Council Living with Cancer Education Program.

Dr Michael Gattas

Dr Gattas has an extensive experience in familial cancers. He has worked in Queensland organising breast cancer gene testing for patients since 1996. He has seen many women and men who have had BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene faults, Lynch syndrome, and many less common cancer gene faults.
He can arrange Medicare funded gene tests for eligible patients, and gene testing for patients who are not eligible for Medicare funding if they are concerned about their personal or family history of breast cancer. These DNA tests can be using saliva samples collected at home or by blood samples.
